WE HAVE JUST BEEN TO: Doha, Qatar

Beautiful flowers in the lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel Doha

With daily nonstop flights between Stockholm and Doha and four weekly nonstop flights between Copenhagen and Doha we wanted to check out what this sandy city has to offer. Our conclusion - a lot more than expected and therefore Doha serves as a great stopover destination on your way home from for example Seychelles, Maldives, Sri Lanka etc.

First of all: it is essential to have a good hotel while in Doha, a place you can enjoy and spend time in. We prefer the Four Seasons. It is one of few hotels located directly on the sea with a small beach and dedicated swimming area. The hotel offers several outdoor pools, tennis courts, a huge spa with wonderful treatments from Sodashi and large variety of facilities including an ice room (can come in handy in steaming hot Doha), hammam, dry sauna, lauconium, hydro pools, swim against the current pools, reflexology foot walk, jacuzzi and more... Every single treatment room features a walled water fall.

The beds at Four Seasons are always a dream to sleep in. Doha was no exception.

An early morning view from a room at Four Seasons.

The hotel is of true Four Seasons quality with excellent service, comfortable and luxurious rooms, several dining outlets and coming up is world famous Nobu restaurant (now under construction).

If coming from a beach holiday one can stop over in Doha to do some shopping. There are a few good shopping malls. One of our favorites is Villagio. Inspired by the canals of Venice this is a large shopping mall American style with a really good selection of brands including, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, H&M, Zara, Foot Locker, Loccitane and more...

In Villagio there are countless dining options. Our favorite is the American deli Dean & Delucca. The cappucino and the salads were just as good as in the original outlet which opened in Soho New York in 1977. The store in Doha just opened and is already a success among locals and expats.

More shopping can be found in the new development "The Pearl" (shops and restaurants on a man made island) plus at the local Souk Waqif

Other exciting attractions in Doha include the unique and spectacular Museum of Islamic Art with its impressive collection.

With a 2-3 night stopover in Doha you will have time to enjoy the Four Seasons and all of the above attractions. Or if you are looking for a wonderful hotel and a holiday with guaranteed sunshine and warm weather than Doha can be your place even for a week's stay.
