WE HAVE JUST BEEN TO: Hvar, Croatia

Venetian heritage and charm (hvar square)
Croatia has become a hot new destination much thanks to great flight connections. In Hvar Select Collection promotes three different hotels tailored for different needs; Adriana, Amfora and Riva.

A charmer. Adriana is a delightful place to be in Hvar – with views of harbour, medieval city and castle on the hill.
At the quieter end of the waterfront promenade you look over the yachts to lively Riva on the other side, close to the main square with its pale buildings and Venetian towers. The superior sea-view rooms are like sonnets (small but poetic) with views you could sing about. Even the city view rooms and suites have a window or two giving partial sea view.
The panoramic views from the rooftop bar and terrace are world-class knockout. Up here people hang out – gazing at the cosmopolitan harbour and pastel city with its terracotta roofs, or staring into a book or laptop, enfolded in a sofa. At this level you also have a swimming pool and a spa.
You can use the beach and facilities at Amfora, a sister hotel. And all around the cobbled lanes and waterfront you can dine on seafood.
From Hvar town you can do wonderful car and boat excursions – to discover other medieval villages, turquoise bays and white beaches – perhaps followed by dolphins (as we were). Goldhorn beach, the horn-shaped sandy beach of Brac backed by a pine forest, is not too far away for a daytrip by boat.
