HOTEL CHECK AUSTRALIA, part 3, Southern Ocean Lodge

Johan Paloheimo continues his island hopping Down Under. Now he discovers the luxuries and adventures of Kangaroo Island...

When you arrive at Southern Ocean Lodge and the staff opens the two massive doors you are just blown away by the view. So stunning and  eye-catching that I actually didn´t notice the lodge at all.

But it does not take too long to find that this Lodge is special. Southern Ocean Lodge is possibly the best and most luxurious lodge I have ever stayed in. The suites are massive and all have superb ocean views.

...of intense blue sea
We stayed in the leading category called Flinders Suite, a suite perfect for couples. The views are stunning, bathroom with the bathtub overlooking the ocean.

Pictures speak louder than words.
AC, safe, open fireplace, walk in closet…..you name it they got it. Not all suites have TVs, ours didn´t and I did not miss it at all. But if you do have a longing for a TV and you can just ask …

All the modcons

And a view
But Kangaroo Island is not just a romantic place to chill. It is a great place to explore – and has a rich variety of Australian animals – sometimes they call it the Australian Galapagos.

what this is (a wallaby not a kangaroo)

We did Wonders of Kangaroo Island tour that included Cape du Couedic lighthouse, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and unique Fur Seal Colony….an much much more.

Remarkable Rocks
The same evening we did Kangaroos & Canapés. It´s truly a great experience sipping bubbly and watching the kangaroos hopping around you.

He is far away but he is "Skippy"
Australian sea lion in a lazy mood
And a fellow who ate too much eucalptus, which makes
 them completely drunk and drowsy
You can eat your breakfast here with this divine view -
or dinner or lunch, or just chill
The day after was the highlight of the trip for me when we did the Seal Bay tour. This tour included a private tour and visit at Seal Bay that is home to Australia´s third largest colony of Australian sea lions. The beach was spectacular and the sea lions were both massive and cute.

A whole colony of them at Seal Bay
Everything is included, activities, meals, beverages….everything. And what is more, it was the best food and the best wines I ever had. Every single meal was a sensual experience – pushing  you to the brink of ecstasy – from the oysters to the salmon.  On Sundays they have a BBQ so please book the later flight from Kingscote to Adelaide. The meals and drinks are included until you leave the lodge, so even though we checked out at 11:00 I could still enjoy one last super amazing lunch with wine. This lodge is truly a Select high end product that can be sold to everyone who is looking for the best and finest things in life.

How to get there?

20 minute flight with Regional Express from Adelaide.
