Sophisticated, glamorous, romantic and vivacious. Italy has captured the heart of our discerning clients, and we are arranging an increasing number of weddings, honeymoons and romantic breaks, as well as family holidays and cultural trips in the land of wine, food and fashionista. Our staff love Italy too...

With a big smile on his face, Select Collection Product Director, Neil Bedford, set off for his latest Italian tour from Rome to Venice via stops in the Tuscan countryside and Verona. An incredible journey  for those with  time and desire to explore - especially if you love train travel. Direct trains link these destinations together perfectly and in the comfort of your First Class carriage you can enjoy the stunning scenery as you travel.
From the eternal city...Rome
To Venice...

Via Tuscany

...with a stay in a Palazzo in Verona

We start with a quick review of the hotels Neil experienced in Rome.

Select Collection hotels in Rome

Hotel de Russie

The beautiful Hotel de Russie by Rocco Forte lies in the heart of Rome. The hidden gardens, spacious rooms and wide corridors bely the fact that Rome is notorious for small cramped hotels…

The majority of the hotel’s contemporary rooms look onto the hidden gardens for which Hotel de Russie is most famous and these are indeed a huge draw card when you want to escape the hectic streets.

View of the garden

A haven amidst the city

And a place for seeing and being seen

The Classic Suites boast city views of Piazza de Popolo or Via del Babuino, while the very special Vaselli Suite, Popoli Suite and Picasso Suite all have amazing roof terraces. The Nijinsky Suite is found at the top of the hotel has an oversized terrace with outside dining room overlooking the gardens and Roman rooftops. Next to the gardens you find the Stravinskij Bar - an absolute must (whether you are staying here or not) to enjoy late lunch or early evening cocktails and where the who’s who of Rome can be found.

Hotel Hassler

A fantastic location at the top of the Spanish Steps which ensures the most impressive of views over Rome….especially from Michelin starred restaurant, Imago, on the top floor.

Stunning views from Hotel Hassler

Hotel Hassler - probably the most sought-after table
in Rome in the corner of Restaurant Imago
More wonderful views from our favourite suite - Penthouse Villa Medici Suite. With it’s 160 sq mtre private terrace it would be a superb spot to host a private event if you are willing to share this special location. The hotel's viewing terrace on the 5th floor is solely for in-house guests and here you can enjoy a quiet drink with one of the very best views of Rome’s domes and spires.

The eclectic rooms combine art-deco, classic Italian marble and a touch of Swiss (the owners’ influence) charm.

See our previous blog for a peep into some of the very different interiors and some glimpses of the charms of the hotel and its surroundings.

Hotel Eden

Exclusive Hotel Eden
We stayed here in a Deluxe Room on the 5th floor which boasted fantastic city views from it’s 2 balconies. Breakfast is served in the Michelin starred rooftop restaurant La Terazza dell’Eden which is a very nice perk. The classic style works very well and all rooms have modern marble bathrooms.

Easter arrived at Hotel Eden

Deluxe room

Balcony views to Villa Borghese Park
Our own balconies overlooked the city
The location is fantastic if you would like to be slightly away from hustle and bustle that Hotel de Russie and Hotel Hassler have right outside their front doors, yet the Spanish Steps are still less than 10 mins walk away and as the hotel is on a hill you get great views. It feels very exclusive - those in the know stay at Hotel Eden - while the level of service is unsurpassable.
