HOTEL CHECK ITALY, Il Pellicano

Ann Jurk continues along the Italian coast to Il Pellicano, a perfect stop for luxury by the sea, with heated pool and the senses aroused by Michelin starred cuisine and Mediterranean aromas…

Il Pellicano, Porto Ercole

One and a half hour’s drive drive along the coast from Rome Fiumicino airport you reach Porto Ercole and the elegant five-star hotel Il Pellicano, right on the seashore.

The smell of rosemary and lavender from the gardens reaches the lobby and as soon as you enter you feel relaxed. You also have the feeling of being a guest in somebody’s elegant home.

General Manger, Danilo Guerrini, and his team do a great job to make you feel comfortable. Very soon they know your name and your needs.

Since I was staying here for three days I was able to try the hotel facilities including the Technogym, the spa and the lovely restaurants.

Two Michelin star Il Pellicano degustation dinner
There are two restaurants, Il Pellicano with two Michelin stars and Pelligril (Tuscan grill). Before the luxury dinner at Il Pellicano, the sommelier showed me the amazing wine cellar. After choosing my wine for the evening (GAJA) I experienced a lovely tasting menu with flavors from the French kitchen.

The last evening I had dinner at Pelligril, and the best seafood lasagna ever!

One night I took the hotel’s private transfer (luxury vehicle and expensive) to a restaurant which was recommended by one of the boys working at the beach club. The driver follows you to the table, and he also fetched me afterwards at the table with an umbrella - since it was raining. I felt a little bit special for a moment. The name of the restaurant is Osteria dei Nobili Santi. Here only locals eat and you have a familiar and soft atmosphere. Really nice food for a nice price.

Beach on the cliffside
Il Pellicano has 35 rooms so you see more people than you do at La Posta Vecchia, and since you have a heated outside pool and private beach this is a popular hotel. Though it has lovely sand, we should not perhaps call it a beach as the sunbeds are on ledges built on a different level along the shore. You need to use a ladder or dive into the sea. This does not disturb the pleasure of guests as they can swim in the lovely pool area (top image).

I stayed in a double room with sea view in the main building. I liked being in the main building, but if you would like to have more privacy and quiet I recommend one of the cottages. The rooms in the cottages have a spectacular view over the sea since they are built higher up in the hotel area.

All rooms are very spacious and the bathrooms are really nice with separate shower and bath. The minibar is included in the rate.

After a workout in the Techno gym I enjoyed a professional full body massage at the spa.

There is nothing not to like about this hotel located on the coast of Tuscany. If you want to explore the surroundings, it is close to both Porto Ercole and Porto Stefano. Porto Ercole is smaller and much more romantic.
